Model DM2-LON LogMyData Data Manager
is a LonWorks device that acts as a gateway between your LonWorks
devices and a central web server such as LogMyData.com. The
Data Manager may be programmed for periodic data reporting and event
driven rule based alarm reporting. You may log into a single web portal
to quickly check the status of any number of Data Managers.
Where do your email notifications come from?
i.CanDoIt®
servers have their own built-in email clients. Emails are sent to you
directly from the remote device. These emails are triggered by events
you program using the simple rule templates in the remote device's web
GUI.
LogMyData®
Data Managers report events to a central server. This central server
generates email notifications sent to you based on events you program
using simple rule templates in the central server's web GUI.
When would you want a central server?
Managing
a small number of devices that send emails directly is not a big job.
But when you have more than just a few devices, you may find it more
efficient to log into one web portal to access all of your devices. Not
only do you have one central source of email notifications, you have
one central place to quickly check the status of all of your remote
devices.
Are there other advantages of a central server?
Yes,
there is additional peace of mind knowing that if connection to any
remote device is ever lost, the central server will send you a
notification telling you the device has not reported in recently.
The
central server also keeps a historical log of events. You do not have
to worry about misplacing an email. You can always check for past
events.
